NLC Ferry Ab Oy said on 5 October 2026 that Peter Ståhlberg is stepping down as managing director of Wasaline for health reasons, after 13 years in the company's leadership. He joined in 2013 as fleet manager and was shortly afterwards appointed managing director.
Ståhlberg said an illness this summer had limited his ability to continue working as he had intended, and that he had decided to bring his retirement forward. Stena Line, which owns Wasaline, will shortly start recruiting a successor. Susanne Lundström will serve as deputy managing director until a new managing director is appointed.
Elisabeth Lönne, chief commercial officer at Stena Line, said that under Ståhlberg the company had grown from a loss-making operator into a profitable business, running Aurora Botnia, which she called one of the world's most modern hybrid vessels. The company said one of his main achievements was leading the procurement, concept development and design of that newbuild.
Ståhlberg said it had been a privilege to lead the organisation on board and ashore, and that he was particularly pleased to have been part of the transfer of ownership to Stena Line, which he called the best solution for the long-term development of traffic across the Kvarken.
