Privacy

Ferry Intel is a news site about ferries. We keep the personal information we hold to a minimum, and this page explains what that is and what we do with it.

When you subscribe to the newsletter

When you sign up, we ask for: your email address; when you'd like the newsletter: your chosen delivery days, time and time zone; the topics you're interested in, if you pick any; and, if you pause the briefing, the dates you will be away.

We use this only to send you the Ferry Intel newsletter at the times you chose, and to cover the topics you asked for. We don't use it for anything else, and we never sell, rent or trade it.

Where it's kept

Your subscription details are stored with Resend, the email service we use to send the newsletter. Resend handles them on our behalf and only to deliver our emails. Its servers may be outside Australia.

The days, time, time zone, topics and pause dates you chose, and the time we last sent a briefing, are also stored in Upstash Redis so the Ferry Intel Briefing can go out on your schedule. Upstash handles that store on our behalf. Its servers may be outside Australia.

Unsubscribing and deleting your details

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter, or by emailing ferry-intel@ferryintel.com.

If you'd like us to delete your details completely, or to see or correct what we hold about you, just email us at the same address and we'll do it.

Reading the site

You don't need to give us anything to read Ferry Intel.

The site is hosted by Vercel. Like most web hosts, Vercel keeps basic server logs, such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, to run the site securely and keep it working. We don't use these to identify individual readers.

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't run analytics tools that follow you around the web. The map uses free OpenStreetMap-based map tiles, which your browser loads from the map provider.

Your rights

We follow the Australian Privacy Principles under Australia's Privacy Act. In plain terms, we collect only what we need, tell you why, keep it secure, and let you see, correct or delete it.

If you live in the EU or the UK, you also have rights under the GDPR. You can ask us for a copy of your details, ask us to correct or delete them, object to how we use them, or ask us to stop using them. We rely on your consent to send the newsletter, and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
