US operator Seastreak and Atlantic City interests led by developer Tommy Carr are in preliminary talks about a high-speed ferry between lower Manhattan and the New Jersey resort city, with a trial possibly running by Memorial Day 2027.
The proposed service would run from the Battery to a marina near the Golden Nugget casino, with a crossing time estimated at around two hours and 45 minutes, which is competitive with the drive from Manhattan in traffic.
Seastreak could use its two largest and newest vessels, the 600-seat high-speed catamarans Commodore, which entered service in 2018, and Courageous, delivered in December 2021. Their availability is one of the open questions, as both also run limited summer trips between New York and Martha's Vineyard. If the service succeeds, Seastreak said it might consider a purpose-built, ocean-going wave-piercing vessel for the route.
The idea is linked to a proposed development at Bader Field, the city's former airfield. The talks remain at an early stage.
