Shippax reported on 16 October 2026 that the Visemar (Visentini)-owned ro-pax Ciudad de Valencia left the Mediterranean overnight on 16 October (GMT+2), bound for Klaipeda, Lithuania, where it is due to arrive on 21 October. The 2020-built ferry has spent the past few weeks at a shipyard in Algeciras, Spain.
The ship is heading to the Baltic for a charter to DFDS. Shippax said the operator announced in April that the chartered ro-pax would increase capacity, particularly for passengers, on Karlshamn–Klaipeda by replacing Optima Seaways. Shippax said Optima Seaways has only around a third of Ciudad de Valencia’s passenger capacity, and described the freight difference as marginal: 2,566 lane metres compared with Optima Seaways’ 2,300.
Since delivery, Ciudad de Valencia has been chartered to Trasmediterránea, now part of Baleària. Shippax described the ship as a Visentini Mark-I/Flex-Bow first-generation design and the newest Visentini version operated by DFDS. It said the 1999-built Optima Seaways represents the first generation of Visentini vessels.
