ABB has been selected to supply power, propulsion and automation systems for the two 200-metre rail-enabled RoPax ferries KUPE and COOK, ordered for New Zealand's government-owned Ferry Holdings Limited. The vessels are being built by Guangzhou Shipyard International for delivery in 2029. Each will have a fuel-agnostic hybrid-electric plant, two Azipod units and an 8.2 MWh battery that can later be expanded to 12.3 MWh. They will serve the Wellington–Picton route with 1,530 passengers and 2,400 lane metres each.
