GNV sells ro-pax Azzurra for demolition after engine-room fire
Grandi Navi Veloci has sold the ro-pax GNV Azzurra for demolition, with a tow to Aliaga in Turkey expected at the end of October, after a June engine-room fire made repairs uneconomic; GNV says the exit does not change its operating plans.

Shipping Italy reported on 14 October 2026 that GNV, which is MSC-controlled, has confirmed the ro-pax GNV Azzurra has been sold for demolition. The ship is expected to be towed to Aliaga, Turkey, at the end of October.
An engine-room fire on 19 June, while the ship was sailing Porto Torres–Genova off Corsica, left her without independent manoeuvrability. She was towed back to Sardinia, then to Genoa on 24 June.
GNV says Azzurra's exit at the end of the summer season was already planned, and the disposal does not change the company's operating plans.
Built in 1980–81 at Öresundsvarvet, Landskrona, as Wasa Star, the ship later sailed as Peter Wessel for Larvik Line and Color Line. She became Snav Toscana in 2008 and was renamed GNV Azzurra in 2017. She is about 168.5 m after lengthening, and over 30,000 GT.
