Shipping Italy reported on 4 November 2026 that the regular ferry between Civitavecchia and Termini Imerese stops with that day’s departure of GNV Spirit from Civitavecchia. The company, part of the MSC group, confirmed the change to Shipping Italy.
GNV said: “the reorganisation of the Civitavecchia–Termini Imerese service became necessary in light of the specific economic conditions of the route, whose continuation in the current configuration would require commercial conditions which the comparison with haulage customers has shown are not sustainable for the market.” It said that, in light of that comparison, it has chosen to strengthen the Naples–Termini Imerese service, “which represents a different solution for continuing to serve the customer base concerned, through a daily service in both directions.”
GNV Spirit will move to that service. Shipping Italy said it will offer daytime departures from Monday to Saturday at 13:30 from Naples, and night departures from Tuesday to Sunday at 01:30. The ship will leave Campania in the middle of the day, arrive in Sicily in the late evening, and leave again after 3 hours. Shipping Italy described that as a double daily sailing, extending across the week what the ship already did between Friday and Saturday on Termini Imerese–Naples.
The route opened in 2011 with two weekly departures, on Wednesday and Friday. Shipping Italy said it later ran year-round, with up to five departures a week and crossings of about fourteen hours, and that GNV Spirit and GNV Auriga had recently maintained it.
