Azernews reported on 2 November 2026 that Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have signed two agreements on transport and logistics, including a next-generation ferry system across the Caspian Sea and an intermodal cargo terminal at the Port of Baku. The report cites Azerbaijan Railways (ADY). The visible time is 2 November 2026 16:51 (UTC+04:00).

ADY said the documents were signed during a visit to Kazakhstan by an Azerbaijani delegation led by Shahin Babayev, executive director of AZCON Holding. The delegation met representatives of Samruk-Kazyna, headed by management board chairman Nurlan Zhakupov.

The first agreement, between Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON) and Samruk-Kazyna, sets the main areas of strategic cooperation for the Caspian Bridge, also known as the Super Ferry project. Azernews said the initiative envisages modern, high-capacity ferries on regular cargo services between Azerbaijan’s Alat Port and Kazakhstan’s Kuryk Port, with specialised port terminals and an integrated transport and logistics system designed to reduce maritime crossing times and improve cargo-handling efficiency. AZCON Holding said the project aims to increase the reliability of freight transportation, strengthen transport connectivity across the Caspian basin, and improve the competitiveness of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, commonly known as the Middle Corridor.

A second document, between Azerbaijan Railways and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, outlines the principal terms for an intermodal cargo terminal at Baku International Sea Port. The facility is intended to attract additional container and other freight volumes and to strengthen coordination between railway and port operations. A joint venture is to manage the terminal’s operational and commercial activities. The next stage is the investment model and the financing arrangements, based on technical and economic assessments.

The delegations also discussed dredging and maritime infrastructure projects.
