The Tokyo Metropolitan Government said on 29 September 2026 that the Bureau of Urban Development is recruiting an operator for the Nihonbashi–Toyosu route extension (日本橋~豊洲航路延伸事業). The extension connects with the circular route in the bay area that was recruited in April of Reiwa 8. Tokyo Metropolitan Government, 29 September 2026 (opens in a new tab).

The subsidy covers start-up operating costs. It is half the operating cost, within an upper limit of ¥200,000 a day for operating expenses. The release says staged upper limits apply. The subsidy period runs through fiscal year Reiwa 9.

The call is open to water-transport operators who hold a licence under the Marine Transportation Act for a general passenger regular route or a similar service, and to businesses that commission ship operation to a water-transport operator. Applications run from Tuesday 29 September 2026 to Monday 26 October 2026, under the recruitment guidelines. The subsidy rules and the guidelines are on the Bureau of Urban Development website.

The release says the city has worked since fiscal year Heisei 28 to make water transport a familiar means of tourism and travel. A subsidy to encourage that use was created in fiscal year Reiwa 5, and the Nihonbashi–Toyosu, Harumi–Hinode (晴海~日の出) and Gotanda–Tennozu (五反田~天王洲) routes were operated under it.
