Sjöfartstidningen reported on 25 October 2026 that the archipelago boat Vaxö collided with a 126-metre tanker off Gåshaga on Lidingö, in the Stockholm archipelago, at about 18:30 on Friday 23 October. Vaxö was bound from Vaxholm toward Stockholm with 22 passengers on board.
The paper said no passengers or crew members were injured, and that neither vessel was damaged below the waterline. Vaxö had material damage to the bow. It continued under its own power to Stockholm, where the passengers went ashore via the aft deck. Karolina Wichman, on press duty for the transport administration, said the vessel was taken out of service at once and that the cause of the collision is not yet known.
The tanker went on to an anchorage further out in the archipelago for examination by the police, the coast guard and the Swedish Transport Agency. Sebastian Wigmo, press spokesperson for the Swedish Maritime Administration, said a pilot was on board the tanker, saw that the ships were on a collision course, and tried to alert the archipelago boat without succeeding. Vaxö struck the tanker’s port side. The pilot reported the collision to the vessel traffic service. No rescue operation was carried out.
