Wasaline signs a two-year biogas supply for Aurora Botnia from 2028
Wasaline has signed an agreement with St1 Biokraft for 42 GWh of liquefied biogas a year. Deliveries begin in January 2028 and the agreement runs for two years. The fuel will be bunkered on Aurora Botnia in Vaasa, and Wasaline's ambition is to use mainly biogas from Suomen Lantakaasu's plant in Nurmo, about 80 km from Vaasa.

St1 Biokraft said on 22 October 2026 that Wasaline has signed an agreement for the supply of 42 GWh of liquefied biogas (LBG) per year. Deliveries will begin in January 2028 and will take place when Aurora Botnia is bunkered in Vaasa. The agreement will run for two years, starting in January 2028.
The liquefied biogas will be transported by tanker truck from St1 Biokraft's production facilities and terminals to the Port of Vaasa. Wasaline's ambition is to mainly use locally produced biogas from Suomen Lantakaasu's new plant in Nurmo, about 80 km from Vaasa. Suomen Lantakaasu is a joint venture between St1 Biokraft and Valio.
Jonas Teir, technical director at Wasaline, said: "Being able to use locally produced biogas is an important step forward for us. We have been using biogas for quite some time, but this agreement also gives us the opportunity to use biogas produced in our own region."
The release says Aurora Botnia already uses biogas, batteries and shore power as part of its energy system. Wasaline operates the daily ferry service between Vaasa and Umeå.
