The Port of Turku said on 21 October 2026 that it and main contractor Oteran Oy have signed a contract for the S2 quay project, part of the Ferry Terminal Turku project. The work covers renovation of the quay and construction of a passenger walkway. The project has begun in late September and early October. The second quay (S2) of the Fregatti terminal is scheduled for completion in 2028.
The S2 quay is currently used by Tallink Silja and will primarily serve Viking Line. It will be renovated over a length of 220 meters, with automated mooring systems installed. The new structure will be founded on steel pipe piles. Nearly 40 kilometres of piling will be carried out, and individual piles will be approximately 45–50 metres long. Around 15,000 cubic metres of concrete will be poured into the quay structures. The contract also includes a passenger access bridge, three boarding bridges, the main deck and a side ramp.
The overall investment of EUR 172 million in the port area includes a new joint terminal, quays and apron areas, as well as associated traffic arrangements.
Minna Pirkkanen, CEO of the Port of Turku, said: "The second quay (S2) at the Fregatti terminal is a key component of the Ferry Terminal Turku complex, and the commencement of this contract marks an important step in the progress of the entire project."
