Yonhap News reported on 20 October 2026 that construction has started on a large passenger ship for the route between Incheon and Baengnyeong, at the northern end of the West Sea. Ongjin County in Incheon said Korea Express Ferry held a steel-cutting ceremony that afternoon at Kangnam shipyard in Busan for the new ship, provisionally named Korea Pride II.
Yonhap said the ship is a 2,600t-class car ferry, with a top speed of 41 knots, and that it can carry up to 573 passengers, 50 vehicles and 10t of general cargo. It is to have a nursing room, a medical room and a pet room. Korea Express Ferry plans for the new ship to enter service by 2028.
The car-and-passenger ferry Harmony Flower, of 2,071t, previously ran the Incheon–Baengnyeong route and stopped in November 2022 when it reached the 25-year age limit. Ongjin County has pursued a large passenger ship since 2019. After 10 rounds of public invitations it signed a memorandum with Korea Express Ferry in March 2025, and it plans to support the operator’s operating deficit for 20 years once the ship is in service.
