Shippax reported on 6 November 2026 that, between January and October 2026, Fred. Olsen Express transported 1,010,000 tonnes of freight, up 2% on the same period in 2025. Over those ten months, freight volumes reached 1.45 million lane metres, a year-on-year increase of 4%.
Compared with 2023, the tonnage carried has increased by 54%, and freight volumes measured in lane metres have risen by 37%. Shippax says Fred. Olsen Express writes that this growth reflects the importance of maritime connectivity in supplying the archipelago and supporting its economic activity.
Food accounts for nearly 40% of freight volumes. Water and other beverages represent around 30%. Parcels account for approximately 5% and textiles for 3%, alongside refrigerated goods, dangerous goods and other cargo. The RoRo vessels have transported more than 3,000 units of dangerous goods so far this year.
A dedicated freight subsidiary was established in 2024. The RoRo vessels Bentayga Cargo and Bahía Cargo joined that operation, followed in July 2025 by Breñas Cargo, the fleet’s third RoRo, with capacity for up to 1,500 lane metres of freight and 7,000 tonnes.
