The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group said Scillonian IV departed Vietnam at 06:00 local time (23:00 UK time) on 31 October 2026, at the start of her journey to the UK ahead of entering service in March 2027.
The company described the ship as a 75m vessel with the capacity to carry 600 passengers. She will replace Scillonian III. The voyage from Ho Chi Minh City is expected to take two months and goes via the Cape of Good Hope, the same route taken by the freight vessel Menawethan earlier this year. A specialist delivery company is crewing the ship. The voyage will include several bunker stops, then a final call at Piriou’s shipyard in Brittany, before she continues on to Penzance.
The ship is expected to spend approximately three weeks in Brittany, where a final survey will be carried out ahead of delivery. Technical teams and a number of crew will be there for preparations and familiarisation, and further crew may join for parts of the journey.
Chairman Ian Howard, who was in Vietnam, said: “Watching Scillonian IV leave Vietnam and begin her journey home was a hugely significant moment for everyone involved in bringing the vessel to life.”
The company said the £40m vessel replacement programme is one of the most significant investments in its history.
